Ad Gefrin becomes the latest Society Sponsor
Ad Gefrin is an Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery in the heart of Wooler, Northumberland, bringing together history and hospitality in a truly distinctive destination. Since opening to the public in 2023, Ad Gefrin has made a significant impact, quickly establishing itself as a cultural and visitor destination in the North East.
The accolades have followed. From the Scottish Design Awards Silver Award for Experiential Design in 2024, to RIBA North East Building of the Year, and national recognition with Gold for Best New Tourism Business at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2025, Ad Gefrin continues to gain momentum. Most recently, it was awarded Silver for VisitEngland’s Best Small Visitor Attraction, further cementing its reputation for quality and innovation.
At its core, Ad Gefrin offers an immersive exploration of Northumbria’s early medieval past alongside a modern distillery producing premium Northumbrian spirits. The museum interprets the significance of the nearby Anglo-Saxon royal palace at Yeavering. This was a time when kings and queens were judged on their generosity rather than their wealth, when leadership was rooted in people and when visitors travelled from as far afield as North Africa to gather at the royal summer court near Wooler. These values of generosity, belonging and welcome form the foundation of the Ad Gefrin today.
Alongside this rich heritage sits a working English whisky distillery. While waiting for its first Single Malt to mature, Ad Gefrin launched Tácnbora, a carefully crafted blend of Irish and Scottish grain and malt whiskies, reflecting the origins of the Anglo-Saxons. Tácnbora has already achieved significant recognition, winning Silver and Bronze medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, followed by Gold awards at the 2026 London Spirits Awards for both the original blend and its Special Limited Edition Sauternes Cask Finish.
Ad Gefrin also features a stylish restaurant and bar, showcasing seasonal, locally sourced produce, and providing an ideal setting for informal meetings or client hospitality. Its flexible event spaces make it well suited to corporate functions, networking events and private gatherings, offering a unique alternative to traditional city venues.
Central to the Ad Gefrin experience is its membership community, known as Corenkyn (old English for Chosen Family). More than a whisky membership, Corenkyn represents a shared belief in Ad Gefrin’s values and a desire to be part of its journey, connecting Northumbria’s 7th century Golden Age with a new era in the making.
Members benefit from exclusive access to Ad Gefrin’s evolving spirit portfolio, including annual releases of exclusive blends followed by future single malt expressions available only to Corenkyn. They also enjoy early access to new releases, the opportunity to purchase casks, priority booking, and a range of special events throughout the year. However, it is the sense of belonging that members value most, gathering for curated experiences that combine food, drink, music and a distinctive Northumbrian welcome.
Located within easy reach of Newcastle and the wider North East, Ad Gefrin offers a compelling venue for Newcastle Law Society members seeking something distinctive. Combining heritage, innovation and outstanding hospitality, it provides an experience that is both enriching and memorable.
We are also very excited to be able to share the news that Ad Gefrin will be providing the special Summer Party cocktail welcome drink for all guests to enjoy and a special after dinner treat at the Annual Law Dinner.
