I do hope everyone has managed to have a lovely summer holiday. It has been a relatively quiet month in terms of Law Society events, but we continue to work hard behind the scenes as we plan towards our busy Autumn schedule of events.

As I head towards the half year point of my presidency year I have had a chance to reflect on some of the amazing events that I have been involved with so far including a swearing in ceremony at Newcastle Courts, the bicentennial event for the national Law Society in May and being part of the Legal Matins service at Durham Cathedral. It has been a great honour to serve as your president during this period and I am looking forward to being involved with a number of important events in the next few months.

We have lots of events and activities planned with some of those being listed on our website and your regular newsletters. Some highlights over the next few months include:

Thursday 25th of September – We are holding our next Managing Partners Forum which DAC Beechcroft are kindly hosting the lunch meeting at their offices in Bank House, East Pilgrim Street, Newcastle NE1 6QF. We look forward to welcoming our guest speaker John Hyde, Deputy News Editor of The Law Society Gazette. This will be followed by a short presentation by Eve Slater, Development Officer for The Access to Justice Foundation. Please email mail@newcastlelawsociety.co.uk to book your place.

Thursday 9th October – Burnetts and Park Lane Plowden Chambers Quiz night at One Strawberry Place in aid of Child Brain Injury Trust. Playing for the Mike Stubbs memorial shield in memory of Mike Stubbs practice director at Park Lane Plowden. Friday 10th October – The Newcastle Law Society Dinner the most prestigious black-tie event in the North East Legal calendar is taking place at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park.  Tickets are selling fast, we have tables of 6-12 tables and also offer mixed tables for smaller firms. We will be again celebrating our newly qualified solicitors at the event and we will be having music and entertainment. Thursday 27th November- In collaboration with our sponsors New Park Court Chambers, we are hosting a General Criminal Law Update Seminar which is free to attend.
