PRESIDENT'S NEWSLETTER – DECEMBER 2025

As we head into the Christmas period, I would like to extend on behalf of the Newcastle Law Society our very best wishes for the Christmas period and wishing everyone a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

It is at this time of year that the work of charities comes more into focus as we enter the season of giving and goodwill and it brings us back to what truly matters: kindness, compassion, and community. Whilst we have done amazingly well so far raising money for my Presidents Charity of the year the Child Brain Injury Trust I just wanted to mention five ways you can support the charity:

  • Donate an Hour’s Pay: Give what you might earn in an hour to help a family receive emotional and practical support.
  • Share their JustGiving Page: Even if you can’t donate, spreading the word helps others learn how they can support families.
  • Start a Mini Fundraiser: Host a bake sale, dress-down day, or festive raffle to raise money for Child Brain Injury Trust.
  • Pledge Your Support; Follow them on social media, share their stories, and become part of their community of hope.

I also wanted to reflect on another busy month of events in November:

On the 6th November we supported the Newcastle Law Society In-House Solicitor group with members attending a seminar hosted by me at the Newcastle offices of Burnetts Solicitors. Damian Murphy a Barrister at Trinity Chambers, Barristers provided a very interesting seminar entitled “Almost everyone's guide to electronic disclosure” which is an important topic which is important across a number of practice areas.

On the 27th November in collaboration with our sponsors New Park Court Chambers, we hosted a General Criminal Law Update Seminar which was free to attend. This was held at the Tyne Suite at the Dakota Hotel and was again very well attended.

We still have a number of important events coming up this month including:

Thursday 4th December- We are hosting another Property Law Seminar with support of our friends at Trinity Chambers and National Law Society including a review on the Renters’ Rights Bill and Adverse Possession which is kindly being hosted by Ward Hadaway. Unfortunately, this event has now sold out so please keep an eye out

Monday 8th December- We are holding an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss planned changes to our articles of association please come along and support and if you are unable to attend please utilise your proxy vote. We will be having some Christmas drinks and some mince pies after the meeting so please come along and support.
