These reforms introduced fixed costs to most civil litigation (including PI and Clinical Negligence) with a value up to £100,000 for both claimants and defendants.  This session will provide an up-to-date analysis of the new reforms whilst providing practical tips and guidance on how to navigate them with opportunities to raise questions.

Speaker Bios

Seamus Kelly is a Solicitor Advocate and Director at Carter Burnett in Newcastle. He has a wealth of advocacy experience and represents clients throughout the country at CCMCs and Detailed Assessment hearings. He has particular experience in clinical negligence and catastrophic injury claims. He regularly advises clients on complex costs issues. Seamus has also acted for clients in relation to costs in the Supreme Court.

Sean Linley is a Senior Costs Draftsperson and Assistant Manager at Carter Burnett (Newcastle upon Tyne) with over 10 years’ experience in costs. He blogs extensively on costs law and has over 13,000 followers on LinkedIn. He has featured in the Solicitors Journal, Cilex Journal and Litigation Funding Magazine and has been regularly quoted by the Law Society Gazette. He is highly experienced in civil litigation including clinical negligence and catastrophic injury claims. He has also acted for FTSE 100 companies, public organisations, charities and government departments . In addition, he has dealt with Supreme Court matters, a privilege many costs specialists have not had.
