Event Programme Summary

The conveyancing sector is undergoing significant change, shaped by evolving regulation, technology, client expectations, and the Government’s agenda. This event brings together expert insights on two key areas impacting residential conveyancing today.

The first session delivered by Angela Hesketh examines PEXA, the digital property exchange platform, exploring its core aims, how it operates in practice, and its interaction with conveyancers and other participants in property transactions. Attendees will also consider lessons from Australia, where PEXA handles over 90% of conveyancing cases, and its potential to shape future approaches to property transactions in the UK.

Angela Hesketh is Head of Government & Public Affairs (UK) at PEXA and a dual-qualified conveyancer with extensive experience in residential property law, legal practice and conveyancing reform. Having begun her career in practice, she later moved into consultancy, advising organisations on digital transformation and the modernisation of conveyancing processes. In her current role, Angela works closely with government, regulators and industry bodies to support the development of a secure, efficient and trusted property market.

The second session presented by Amanda Perrotton Legal Partner at Bell Howley Perrotton. Amanda will focus on residential Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), providing an overview of its purpose, why it remains a high-risk tax area, and the implications of increased HMRC scrutiny and compliance activity. Recent and upcoming changes affecting residential transactions will be highlighted to support informed, risk-aware practice.

Together, these sessions offer delegates a comprehensive view of emerging digital tools and regulatory developments transforming conveyancing today.
