Simon will be talking to the Forum about The Role of a Partner in a modern law firm:

There are thousands of law firm “partners”. Some are, but many are not, partners in the old sense that they are the owners of the business. All too often, the title “partner” is just that – a title, given to someone who is really good at billing. In writing my trilogy of Law Firm Management & Growth books, and in my work with law firms around the world, I came to see something that is often hidden in plain sight : the sustained success, or otherwise, of a law firm hinges directly on two things. First, the business focus of the partners in that firm, and second, the leadership skills of the partners in that firm. You need both aspects – business skills with no leadership means that the energies of the entire firm cannot be harnessed, and you need business skills because there’s no point being great leaders if you are leading everyone in the wrong direction. I look at both aspects in the session – in what direction should partners be leading, and how do you get everyone in a firm to follow?
